The Music Hall is renowned for having an outstanding acoustic, particularly for orchestral music. The hall has seen performances by orchestras from around the world, but the core of the classical music programme has for many years been provided by Scotland’s first-class national orchestras – the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. The first performance by one of these orchestras took place many years ago, and since the BBC SSO formed a subscription season at the Music Hall in 1991 there has been an annual orchestral season each year since. The orchestral season now includes 15 concerts between September and May annually. Over the years the orchestras have performed with many outstanding conductors and soloists including Steven Osborne, Nicola Benedetti, Sir Alexander Gibson, Donald Runnicles, and more.
