Jenny Jones

Jenny played the violin, then viola, in a number of concerts at the Music Hall in the 1950s and 60s, as part of the Aberdeen Schools’ Orchestras. The orchestras were conducted by W. Peddie Willox and Andrew Davidson – both well-known string teachers in Aberdeen – and drew pupils from schools all over the city. They rehearsed once a week on a Saturday morning and the rehearsals culminated in an annual concert. Jenny remembers the orchestras were a wonderful experience for youngsters, introducing them to a huge range of orchestral music, from Haydn Symphonies to Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo” and giving them the opportunity of taking part in major public performances.
