General Tom Thumb

Charles Stratton, known as General Tom Thumb was a dwarf who appeared to packed-out sell-out crowds at the county assembly rooms in February 1846. This was before the Music Hall was added to increase capacity for this type of popular event. General Tom Thumb toured the world and achieved great fame as a performer under circus pioneer Phineas Taylor Barnum. Barnum was the American showman, politician, and businessman who founded the Barnum & Bailey Circus and inspired the 2017 film The Greatest Showman.
