Bowie launched his Ziggy Stardust stage show in February 1972, dressed in a striking costumes with his hair dyed reddish-brown. The Ziggy Stardust Tour played England, Scotland, North America, and Japan from 1972 to 73, to promote the studio albums The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and Aladdin Sane. The tour visited Aberdeen on 16 May 1973, these later Ziggy shows, were ultra-theatrical affairs filled with shocking stage moments. Bowie toured and gave press conferences as Ziggy before a dramatic and abrupt on-stage “retirement” at London’s Hammersmith Odeon on 3 July 1973. Bowie died from liver cancer on 10 January 2016, two days after his 69th birthday and the release of the album Blackstar.
